Company History

Superior Home Comfort Services (formerly Montour Home Comfort Services) was found as Montour Auto Service in 1925, originally as a bus company linking Williamsport with Montoursville as well as operating numerous charters in the area. The founders felt the auto business would be their main focus, and they had no thoughts of fuel oil or the gasoline business.

In 1926, Montour Auto Service became a Tidewater Petroleum distributor for gasoline, fuel oil, and motor oil. The initial intent was just to use the products in their own buses but the founders soon discovered themselves a new business venture in marketing petroleum products to the residents and businesses in the area. Montour continued the relationship with Tidewater until 1964.

It was in June of 1964 that Montour was acquired by Sun Oil Company (Sunoco) and was operated as a wholly owned subsidiary until 1989, when Montour became a Division of Sunoco Inc. Around that same time Sunoco merged two other long-time subsidiary businesses into Montour: Kelly Company in Harrisburg and Herr Gas & Oil in Shamokin.

During the years that followed, Montour has actively expanded its footprint into Centre County, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area, and the Pocono/Hazleton area. Then in 2009, Montour became a division of Superior Plus Energy Services, a company specializing in portable fuels products and services whose focus is centered on its customers and has a strong desire to grow.

Today, Superior Plus Energy Services (formerly the Montour division) services nearly 50,000 residential and business customers in 20 counties in Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania. We pride ourselves on putting our customers first and delivering quality service in order to become the best North American portable fuels products and services provider.
